No Spam, PleasePosted by jaye8698 |
I don't know if you can tell by the number of blog entries I post that I really like the steve-o-meter blogs. I really like them. I used to like the eBay blogs, too, way back in the day when there was actually something interesting to read.
At first, spammers were chastised soundly and their blogs were reported to eBay (is anyone aware that 90% of the spamming going on over there is against eBay policies?). Then one or two regular bloggers put up a little spam, then a few more did, then more and more, and now it's all spamming, all the time.
Look, I understand the urge to spam. You see a venue that gets a lot of traffic, and you think, "Ah ha! Lots of nice people who might buy my stuff." But the truth is, spam quickly grows tiresome, even obnoxious. It's like flipping through channels on tv and finding nothing but infomercials. On this site, it's harmful. This is a free site for users, and the only way the o-meters can keep it up and running is to sell advertising. If sellers start using the blogs to advertise, steve-o-meter loses revenue. Without revenue, he can't maintain the site.
So if I pop into your blog and yell, "NO SPAM! NO SPAM!" it's nothing personal. The banner network ads are a great deal. The item ads are a really fabulous deal. I can attest to the fact that the item ads draw traffic to my listings.
So support the site with your advertising credits and resist the urge to spam the blogs.
Thank you.
