Have you had the pleasure of flying lately? What a joy. Spend hours trying to find a flight going where you need to go. Try to find a decent price. Find a decent price, only to have the airline tack on a mess of taxes and fees. Get to the airport two hours early. Line up like cattle headed for the slaughterhouse so a surly TSA worker can glare at your photo ID, make you remove your shoes and unload your pockets so you feel like you're about to enter prison. Wait around, wait around, dr [...]

I got a message on my other blog from one of the developers of a new online selling and trading site. I checked it out. It's very new, but it looks very interesting.

Check it out. This might end up being the alternative to eBay site.

I'm going to set up a booth there and see how it goes. I'll keep you posted.

http://www.bonanzle.com/

eBay: Here's The Situation

One of the toughest concepts to grasp when writing fiction is, what exactly is a plot? I cringe when I hear a beginning writer say, "My novel is about World War II." Um, that's a documentary, not a novel. Setting and events are situations. Plot is how characters react and act, and feel about a situation.
Life is one big situation, too. New characters appear in the scene. Time passes. Things change. Success (or failure) in life, as in fiction, depends on how a person reacts [...]

Every once in a while I will sell, or attempt to sell, items on eBay for someone else. I charge a 40% commission to cover fees and my time. Before taking a consignment, I do the research to make sure the item is worth listing and is it possible to get a price the owner will be pleased with.
Sometimes it works out beautifully. A friend had a box full of jewelry she thought was junk since her mother had allowed kids to play dress-up with it for over 40 years. I handed her a check that mad [...]

Some say it's the little things in life that leave the greatest impact on us...

The other day my dog (positioned on her front porch guard) started barking her more ferocious bark. It was a bark to alert me that a stranger had crossed the line and was probably encroaching onto our property. I went out to examine the situation and found our newest, young neighbor lad cutting across our yard from his garage (in the back) to our front sidewalk with a bunch of plastic square [...]

A great thing happened last month. My son got married. We all went to Vegas, partied hard, enjoyed a swift but memorable ceremony, drank too much, ate too much, and I have a beloved new daughter-in-law. An awful thing happened, too. Apparently the mother of the groom is supposed to look like a grown-up. I had to go clothes shopping.
I hate shopping for new clothes. I hate entering the store to be faced by racks and racks of colors, fabrics, style and fashion displayed to tempt me. No ma [...]

Dave Barry is a Pulitzer Prize-winning humor columnist for the Miami Herald. Below is an excerpt from an article he wrote for the Miami Herald after his brother was diagnosed with colon cancer. This diagnosis prodded Dave into having a long overdue colonoscopy himself.

I received the excerpt in an email yesterday and it is just TOO funny not to pass on. It may be a little too graphic for some...I'm sure I'll hear about it if it is...but it's not vulgar and it really i [...]

Every so often on eBay I lose my mind and do a Buy It Now with a Best Offer option. I made a very successful sale one time doing that. Notice, one time.

Every other time it's made me hate myself in the morning.

I know the formula: seller wants the most money, buyer wants to pay the least money, and the two shall meet somewhere in the middle. There's no reason to beat up either side for trying to get the best deal. It's nothing personal.

And yet...

Want to d [...]
